Settling in

The urge to unpack all of these boxes and get fully settled in seems to come in small bursts. I have been more content to read books and catch up on various paperwork things.

But the small bursts are quite satisfying, like putting together the big table, and putting its leaves in. What's cool is that those leaves probably haven't been put into the table in something like twenty years or so, maybe even longer. Pay no attention to the sad state of the bookcases - they suffered some damage during the move. I have some tacking and gluing and possibly even decoupaging (to cover the busted up bits) ahead for me on those things until I can get sturdier cases in the future.

I opened up the box containing a bunch of children's books and filled up the shelves in the secretary desk, which was satisfying and comforting - it feels good to have the books out and visible. So many favorites from over the years.
