whine whine whine

gah.

When there's this much bellyaching about subjective forms of peer review, you have to wonder what the fucking point ever was in the first place for so many of us to self-publish and show our creative sides on the web.

For fuck's sake.

Has someone else been whining?

There was some significant discussion on one board I frequent, yes, and a new thread has started at the MATH+1 forum regarding the Reader's Choice awards, which included a fair modicum of kvetching.

Sorry, I know you feel justified and bitter and all, and you certainly deserve recognition for your work, but the constant asides I see in (many) journals and message boards is turning me off of the people more than it's turning me off of the Awards.

These Awards are not the end-all, be-all. I really wish people would stop giving the whole process so much power over them. I really do.

Well, I for one have sworn off bellyaching. I decided not to care about awards - compliments like the one you just wrote mean far more to me. Thank you.

most "artists" make their "art" just to have other people coo and pet them for it, not because they have anything to express. it's handy when they expose themselves as such.
