hrt teh web
Feb. 7th, 2006 09:36 amI brought Sim Tower to work. It would not work. Windows NT doesn't happen to play nice with this particular game. Through the wonders of Google, I have now cleverly dropped some .dlls into various directories in order to cajole this game into coming to life.
Little tiny silhouettes turning red as they wait for elevators! Little maids turning down beds methodically, leaving the hotel spotless by noon thirty. The constantly ringing phones, the tiny Santa flying across the sky at the end of every fourth quarter. Mmm, sims. I've been craving a bit of gaming lately based on repetitive goal-oriented crap. Dunno why - it's not inherently interesting or imaginative. But I find it soothing on occasion. I admitted to someone just the other day that I miss the old-skool version of Windows defrag - I used to catch myself watching it chunk through my hard drive, one aqua-colored block at a time. I suppose it's accidental meditation, a sort of REM action standby for when I have a lot on my mind. Sim Tower does the same for me.
I have started drinking coffee again, but I think I need to stop. It leaves me feeling entirely unsettled for a good half hour or so. I might need to revitalize my tea love, once more. A bit of caffeine is alright, but the actual makeup of coffee seems to be disagreeing with me as of late. It's kind of sad, as I really do like coffee, but even if it's some weird psychosomatic thing, I'd rather do without that half hour of jitters and slight nausea. It's just nice to have one beverage that tastes like something - the only other thing I ever drink is water.

Date: 2006-02-07 04:40 pm (UTC)I also still have three boxes of tea that I bought while in Scotland: Strawberry, Spiced Indian Chai, and English Rose. I also have all manner of orange spice, that winter plum blend, and about 5 different kinds of green (need to find me a good toasted rice matcha one).
Hee, Jell-O drink. How odd. "Tastes sweet, helps your nails grow stronger!"
Please share your favorite RoT flavor: ___________

Date: 2006-02-07 04:42 pm (UTC)I've never played Sim Ant, though. Sounds frenetic. I have Sim City (the original), Sim Copter, and Sim Island. I also love Rollercoaster Tycoon and Caesar III, but I can't find my discs anywhere. Grr.

Date: 2006-02-07 05:31 pm (UTC)While I do love SimCity, SimEarth is a close second, even though my copy was for the SNES (joypad not the best controller for SimFillInTheBlankHere games). Sometimes I just left it on for the tranquil background music.
