So my boss' boss lent me Crash to watch, and I got through most of it at work. I just finished the rest at home.

I couldn't stop watching it, but I never want to see this movie again. Race was the key issue in this movie, and yet I found myself flinching at the constant backwash of plain assholery coloring over the tension, tinting it all a more insane shade of red.

Malicious, cruel, unthinking, angry, insecure, stupid people. A whole movies' worth. On a day like today.

Officer Hanson: Something else funny?
Peter: [laughing] People, man... people.

I thought it was good. The first half was a bit much, I mean, you hate everyone and it seems there are no redeeming qualities, but the last 45 minutes or so was a doozie.

Yeah, like I said, it was compelling to keep me glued to it.

The doozie bit kinda reminded me a bit too much of Magnolia though, so I kinda got yanked out of the moment.

I didn't like climax of Magnolia that much. The frogs killed it for me.

LOL!

I can totally dig that, but at the same time, I think they're meant to. I have a strange, fierce fondness for that movie.

one of my favorite things, which i think just may mean that i'm a dork, is that in that "what do kids know?" show, there's a guy in the audience holding up a sign with the book, chapter, and verses of the bible that talk about the plague of frogs.

Oh, there is tons of foreshadowing (http://kempa.com/articles/mag82/) to the rain of frogs in that movie, you just need to know where to look.

Heee, I was just about to find a link similar to yours, and then I read your comment. All those 8's and 2's, man.

Slightly cloudy.

Your love for that movie rivals my own. When is Paul Thomas Anderson coming out with a new film, already?!?!?

There actually used to be a great website out there for all things PTA-related, but it apparently now redirects to a site where you can buy large quantities of cigarettes. Sigh.

I knew I liked you two for a good reason. I love Magnolia.

I liked that the movie didn't leave me feeling like I was a better person than (most of) the characters, nor did I feel like I was being guilt-tripped throughout the entire thing. Whether it was accurate isn't something I can decide, but it was a very interesting depiction, and the performances were pretty good across the board.

everyone at work has been recommending it, which makes me nervous because they think that la cage aux folles is wacky and bizarre, and that it's shocking that there are some poor people who don't want to be middle class. but, then, i am probably a judgmental ass and should just watch it for myself.

have you seen the color of fear?

it's another film about race. it's stuff from a weekend retreat-ish thing with a bunch of men talking about their experiences with race. it's really intense and makes you think a lot, which i like. i have no idea how it's similar to or different from crash (which apparently my library doesn't have, dammit.)

(i hope this won't make you sad, but whenever i'm not looking at your icon, but it's on the screen... so like, when it's in the corner of my eye, i guess... it looks like batz maru from sanrio. it's very strange. i kind of enjoy it...)

Sure. I just rented it last night, too. Compelling.

As a 1/8th Cherokee Cyborg, I found the movie slow to start. The ending was pretty decent, but the overall message lacked any kind of punch to any minority that has experienced racism. I think the hollywood part was probably the most accurate and would help explain current BET programming. The Boondocks acutally hits minorities much harder. But back to Crash, I recommend it.
