Crowded House - Together Alone
and
Neil Finn - Try Whistling This

Music, she is a balm.

Man, I am just really digging these albums right now. Re-discovering them.
It helps to drown out the woman downstairs, too, who has been on the biggest damn Joshua Tree kick lately. "With or Without You," over and over and over and over and over and over and over, with portions of other songs thrown in.

I combat her U2 barrage with Neil Finn's amazing silky lyricism and rockin' beautiful guitars and piano and and and. It's just too bad, as I happen to like The Joshua Tree very very much. I just can't handle the way she's listening to it.

Neil Finn is the best songwriter this country has, followed very closely by Wayne Mason, and by Don McGlashan of the Muttonbirds. :)
Hey, have you heard "Mesage To My Girl" by Split Enz? It's a gorgeous song. It's also possible to find live versions by Neil Finn and Crowded House, but I think the Split Enz version is the most arsekicking.

"Message to My Girl" is one of the sweetest songs ever! I have an old CH cassette single (remember those?) of "Chocolate Cake," I think, and the B side is a live "Message to My Girl."

I have a few Split Enz albums on vinyl, so yes, I've heard the original, as well as a few live versions -- including in person! Live, Neil Finn is one of the most amazing acts I have *ever* seen. Ever. I've seen him solo, with brother Tim, and with Crowded House.

Unfortunately, since he's so prolific, I don't have a lot of rarities or what-not, as it would take a small inheritance to have the money for it all. So, no Muttonbirds for me, alas.

I just love this music.

Ack, not that the Muttonbirds are directly connected in any way, sorry. I meant mostly that not only do Neil & Co. have so much material and side projects and things, that it's nearly impossible for me to keep up with "If you like Crowded House, you'd definitely like ..." bands.

That's what I meant.

The Muttonbirds aren't that rare...their version of "Don't Fear The Reaper" can be heard at the end of the film "The Frighteners" which is Peter Jackson's worst film, but still damn good...tho' I don't know if their stuff has been released in the US...they're very popular in the UK though. Look for them on Audiogalaxy or something...
