Guh, I'm a little shook now. Amazingly, the guy in that truck? GOT OUT. They half-pulled him out, and he got out, shrugged off his jacket, threw it on the street, put his hands behind his head, and looked despairingly at what was once a sweet ride.
The other driver seems OK, too. Vaguely Trixie, on her cell, using her inhaler liberally. My bedtime is now, but I feel a little wired. Bleh.
Edited to add: that sound is becoming one of the most familiar worst sounds, ever. This is at least the third time I was really glad I chose to park my car somewhere else, because that corner has seen more impact than I care to think about. I mean, sometimes that's 'my spot,' since the other cars move up until there's just enough room for a tiny one like mine right at the end of the block, there.

Date: 2005-04-15 04:29 pm (UTC)My camera shot is facing, essentially, eastward. The street I am standing on is a north-south. I suspect he was coming from the west, was turning left onto my street, and struck a car that was coming from the east. Since he was probably turning sharp and fast, he completed a roll before coming to a rest there. The other car was in the middle of the intersection, facing west.

Date: 2005-04-15 07:09 pm (UTC)I live one house over from the corner where there is a two way stop. Most people either roll slowly through the stop or ignore the stop sign completely (especially going downhill---oh, my brakes! Cannot stop!). On the non-stop sign street, there is a hill just before the intersection, so cars coming over it, don't see that they are about to get hit by the idiots who feel that stopping is for suckers or people who want to live or something. Screeching of tires is common. When the screeching is particularly drawn out, you tense up and cringe, waiting to hear the crash. If you are near the window, you look out (though now there is a giant holly bush mostly blocking that view). We have run out to aid in crashes a few times. Luckily, there have been no fatalities. Yet, anyway.
