OK, so this morning marks the second time this week that I have been stopped on this one corner right across from my office, and asked for directions to Union Station.
How odd.
I find that I go through spates of incidents like this, where I am approached more often than anyone else around me, for directions. I don't think I look particularly helpful, really, but maybe it's just that I so often feel comfortable and at ease in the wash of downtown crowds, that my local-ness shows through? I have no idea.
Both times, the queries came from early 20-something women who seemed just the tiniest bit frazzled, and a little annoyed at themselves for not finding the damned place on their own, already. They also both asked me in the same exact manner: looking about, and then just landing eyes on me and speaking before even checking to make sure I was paying attention. Because it was the same street corner both times, I gave the same exact directions both times.
I got a little more sleep last night than usual, and so even though my eyes still feel sort of heavy and warm in their sockets, my self-perception is noticeably much more positive, and there's actual good color to my skin, and this coffee tastes really, really, good. It doesn't just taste of survival.

Date: 2005-02-18 08:10 pm (UTC)I personally prefer only a dash of survival in my coffee in the morning, so I'm glad you were able to cut down a bit on that. I am glad to hear of your positive day today. I'm in a very silly mood today.
