My fingers were actually poised over my keyboard last night, tempting me to update the main website I keep, but I worked on work stuff for a while, and then I thought, "oh, Diablo II might be a good few minutes of fun, yup yup," and then suddenly, it was time for bed, as I was sleepy and warm, and full of nummy Indian food from a place called Khyber Pass, in Oak Park.

They do kick up the spice for you, if you're into that kind of thing, but one of the reasons I like Khyber Pass is that they are fairly pedestrian with most of their dishes, and they are therefore palatable to a spicy food wuss like myself.

It's weird, though, because I am all about the wasabi making my sinuses burn when I go out to have sushi. It's a different kind of burn, of course, and so I figure that the jalepeno type of hot, the curry chutney type of hot, those are spices that affect some other part of my brain than the pleasure center. I feel uneasy and annoyed with those kinds of spices, unless they are in moderation. Even if I suck it up and eat something more spicy than I am used to, I feel worn out afterwards, and it doesn't feel worth it.

A wasabi high, though? It's like little zaps of green electricity, it's a clean burn all up through my nose, it's almost sweet and salty on my tongue, it is a sophisticated and graceful burn that leaves me feeling worn out, but smiling. Aphrodisiac? Perhaps.

Last night's dinner was sublime, though: rose milk, cold and sweet. Onion kulcha, plain nan, saffron rice, chicken saag. We ate and swabbed up pools of sauce and spinach. It was lovely, and just right. We walked out into the cold with spice on our tongues, a bit of flush to our cheeks.

Ann and Tim both told me I was cheating for writing in this Livejournal thingy instead of updating the main site. Pbbbbllltt. I'll get to it, but how is this cheating? How? :)

I am off to take more photos of antique vases and plates.

Fun fun!
