I get to go home from work soon, and not a moment too.

I've been stuck up at the front desk again, in the large, shiny fishbowl of the lobby. The feeling of being stuck in a weird corporate-version of grade school recess has clung to me all day, as co workers and training students get louder and louder, the closer they get to the echo chamber in which I sit to the side of.

I feel worn after a week of weird pain and fever, which made the unexpected (and yet expected) requirement of filling in at this desk even more tiresome. I've hung up on one person today, but only after politely excusing myself and saying thank you. It was an offshore telemarketer asking if I'd like to know how to cut my insurance costs. No, lady. I'd like to somehow have the balls to call in to work tired.

Driving rain in the city, cold and windy, and I am wearing shorts. Serves me right, I guess, for relying on the heat and humidity of yesterday.

Yay, it's 5. Too bad I don't have a four day weekend.

I must be a bad influence on you. Growing up in Florida warped my mind: I have a mental block against wearing a jacket after April Fool's Day.

Being a Chicagoan also brings this strange quirk: anything above 40F, and it's shorts weather. Anyone from warmer climes, even ex-Chicagoans, think we're nuts. The cold didn't get me so much as the driving rain.
