enteleinAn ÅSNEN high cabinet from IKEA.

I've been wanting this cabinet for over a year now, ever since the little wooden framed cloth shelving unit I got started to warp and sag and spill bottles and soaps all over the place on the little ledge next to the shower. There's ... a lot of hinges and screws for this new item, and I'm sort of tired, but it most likely won't be any worse than the table/countertop/chopblock unit I put together many months ago. Svetlana and I were clearly out of our minds by attempting to enter an IKEA on a Saturday, but we were out in the suburbs anyhow for my stepnephew's first communion yesterday. Plus, it gave me an excuse to suggest going to Mitsuwa Marketplace. We marched right up to an Info desk at IKEA, gave the guy the part number, got a call back from the warehouse within two minutes, and had a bar-coded printout to take to the cashier for furniture pickup. Sweet. A couple of bedsheet sets later, we were sitting near the exit, having a cone.
A few minutes after that we had the cabinet box loaded into my little Geo and we were off to Mitsuwa. The samples guy had roasted chestnuts at the door, so I chewed the mealysweetdryness of one slowly as we walked around. Svet picked up a bunch of toy things and some wasabi peas and lots of gum, and then we went around through the food court to the back and checked out the kids playing DDR Extreme. I considered myself on par with a few of them. There were two dudes, however, who spent far too long picking a fucking song, but made up for it with stupidly insane footwork. Finally bored, we left and drove back into the city in brilliant sunshine.
Today's Mother's Day was low-key and way too warm. I sat in a far suburb and drank water and had 7 layer salad and wished for a long, leisurely nap.
On to the cabinet, now.
