Hoo whee, the fresh scent of cynicism!
Mar. 13th, 2003 04:27 pmYou know why there's so much hyperbole being flung around like monkey poop?
Because people are trying to cope with the fact that no matter what happens, we're screwed. If it's not SUVs and soccer moms damning us with their anti-green ways, it's Dubya and his old white men puppetmasters manipulating the Mighty Right into a War Machine. If it's not ambiguous runs on duct tape and plastic sheeting for windows, it's blatant photography of dislocated limbs and jawbones blown apart by shrapnel, blood and entrails universal, whether it was by Saddam's hand, or by our own men representing the stars and stripes - and this is all echoes of the agitprop photos Pro-Lifers use every time they stake out a clinic.
We're all feeling scared and guilty. We're repeating ourselves (please, no more french fry jokes. please). We're getting angry, and ultimately, most of us are doing not a damn thing.
And don't you think that opening or closing your checkbook to any one organization or political party is earning you any points in the karmic balance, kid.
Sorry to say, we're all just sitting here on our widening asses, hoping that It just doesn't happen to Us.
(I'd like to be convinced I'm wrong, that someone out there is making a difference, no matter how small. I'm thinkin' the Lysistrata Project is something, at the very least.)
