Tired.

My eyes close on occasion, and with a mental thunderclap, I am almost in REM sleep. I know it's not, not totally, because I don't feel that far gone, but it's almost like I can feel the dream world right under the surface.

But when I blink, there's shouts of color, and smell of bright sunlight, and for a moment I feel like I am catching up to someone and almost overtaking them. Each blink is a story, a thousandfold emotions that leave me sitting here wondering exactly what my brain would be capable of with only a few more days of sleep deprivation.

I was told last night by a friend's co worker that I had a good operator voice. She had just met me a few minutes before. Heh, I think it was just that I had come in from out of the cold, and I was subconsciously attempting to sound less like a Chicagoan. Also, I am tired, so I sound less like a hyperspastic kid than I think I normally do.

Words and friendships are treasures to me right now. With all the stress of an upcoming move, I hang onto these instances of connecting, and I'm very glad for them.

I find that when I tell people who call that they need to call an entirely different, not-toll-free number for technical support, it really helps to say this in a welcoming manner:

"Oh, yes, it does sound like a question for our technical support team! That's actually a different number; I can give that to you:" ... and then I rattle off the number. When I first started here, I didn't have that scripting down, and people used to argue with me all the time: Why don't you have an 800 number? Why can't you just transfer me? This is ridiculous, do you know that?

Since changing the situation from making them do something to me giving them something, out of the generousness of my spirit, no one ever complains any more.

Attitude really is everything.

It sure is. I'd be a fucking Pulitzer prize winner by now if my attitude didn't suck so much. :-(

For what it's worth, you have more attitude and moxie than a lot of people I know. You'll find your groove. You're too cool not to.
