I could say how much I liked reading about your horrid morning, and the empathy I felt as I read it.
But, honestly, what I really think is, "you say kiddy-corner!" I am endlessly fascinated with how many variations there are on a lot of phrases out there, and how we all know what they mean, even if they differ from how we say them. And I am not convinced it is a regional thing either. It seems almost familial. Because you learn this stuff from your family, after all.
That "white noise" would drive me bonkers. You should just be a concession jockey for the rest of the day--and not just to your coworkers--even when you answer the phone.
