Omnifam ... REVEALED
Dec. 5th, 2005 10:12 amOK, so now that the credits have rolled for the Alternate Reality Game, Omnifam (based on the Alias TV show universe), I am tickled pink to realize that many of my favorite ARG peeps were behind it, most notably Varin, who I never like to talk to when I hang out with her. ;)
Hilariously, I never ever realized any of the puppetmasters were actually working on this game -- not even Scrappy, who I had a couple conversations with about it. I swear, I'm not actually dumb. I think I am probably just one of those people who genuinely doesn't give a crap who is behind the game, as long as I am having fun, and the material is good.
That was totally the case with this game - pretty much every thing I saw in Omnifam was of good, solid quality. Merritt Parker's blog was awesome, the Rambaldi forgery was gorgeous, and the live event I participated in in Villa Park (a western suburb of Chicago) was hilarious and really well-done, even if it did involve a clown. OK, OK, it was hilarious precisely because it did involve a clown. Hardly a month previous, Varin and I had gotten onto a boat supervised in part by what I termed a zombie mime. I never even suspected that the next ARG clown I would encounter would be ALL HER FAULT.

(OK, you really need to check out that link, because the caption is even funnier to me now. I am guessing that he was actually talking to Varin right there, which makes my joke quote oddly prescient.)
A clown, by the way, who I'd met sans makeup back in May, during Hivemeet. OMG. The poor clown dealing with high 80's temps in full makeup and long pants and long-sleeved shirt and wig was Jim, Varin's husband.
o.m.g. JIM!!
Again, they might've been shocked that I never recognized him, but I honestly never even thought about spending energy trying to guess who was behind the bright yellow shirt, the crooked bowtie, and the stunt wig. Heheheheheh. All I knew was, I had a data card I had to give to someone, and I was stuck in a big, empty park with a clown. Freaking hilarious.
I send my heartiest congratulations to the puppetmaster team for Omnifam. You guys did a great job.
