Birthday

A quite ordinary day, replete with subway train and bus transfer and walking and morning coffee and booting up the computer after being dormant all weekend. I got to work very early, and took a snoozy little nap on my morning break. There are days I totally look forward to those naps.

There is a slight sparkle creeping into every new hour, as birthday wishes flow in from all sorts of places. Goodness.

I'm taking it easy this year, but so many of my friends have made sure to make this day special, anyway.

James made a puzzle trail, in honor of my birthday. Maybe you can solve it, too, and get to the fantastic prize at the end. It's so worth it. At least, I think so.

My experiments in mojito-makin' were successful Saturday evening. For lunch today, my boss took me and a few co workers out to lunch at the Mexican place in the building. I am now full of fish tacos and chips and salsa.

Sleepy and happy. The way it should be, today.

I almost got fooled into walking right into a cake-and-birthday-song gathering unarmed.

My boss came into my office with a tense, terse, "I know you're on your break, but what are you doing for the next ten minutes? The receptionist is not feeling so great, and so we need you sit up there. Oh, and they're working on the kitchen area, so if you wanna go around, that might be easier." As I stammered and tried not to look pissed off, I grumbled to myself until she was out of my doorway, and then I snickered, and said to myself, "cake."

Sure enough, as I dutifully gathered the headset/amplifier and my prox card, I headed around the long way, to my boss and my department standing around a leetle round cake, and then my boss handed me a card as they finished singing to me. It was very cute, and the cake was a nice yellow, with white frosting. I pretended to blow out a candle, and then I sliced pie-shaped pieces and we took a little sugar break for a few.

Heh, I almost fell for it. I hate that I can hardly ever be really surprised, though. There's always some little thing that gives it away, or some weird sense I get that something is off, someone is either lying to me straight out, or by omission. It's all good, though. The cake was very nice, on top of a nice lunch. My co workers are loads of fun - I was even able to walk them through James' puzzle trail really quickly without them completely glazing over. Very cool.
