Fever of 102 last night. Horrible cough.

This morning, after a fever break, 101.4.

I have no idea where this came from.

I keep stumbling aroung the apartment in a daze.

*hugs*

Hope you feel better! Drink lots, and play lots of video games ;) (Okay, one of those will actually help, the other is just fun.)

I am trying to keep the water going, but it's hard, because my throat is swollen, and it makes me feel slightly ill. I think yeah, I need chicken soup. It would go down so much easier.

Be sure to use an old chicken.

[identity profile] weephun.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yuck, hope somebody can bring you some chicken soup. Seriously though, get better, being that sick really sucks.

[identity profile] entelein.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that would be nice. I was supposed to do tech support for my mom today (switching her DSL provider, etc.), and I am almost wondering if I can get her to pick me up and drop me off, even though she's out in the burbs. I don't want to drive, and I certainly don't want to get on a train and infect everyone else.

Man, chicken soup sounds so good. As do popsicles. *whimper*

Soothes the Savage Throat

[identity profile] hmrpita.livejournal.com 2005-06-22 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Get a lemon. Cut a big chunk off of it. Squeeze the juice into a cup. Then drop the piece of lemon into the cup. Use that nifty tea kettle you have to boil water and pour the boiling water over the lemon and juice. Drink. It's great for a sore throat and it is good for you. It tastes good too. You can get a few strong cups out of one lemon. You can reuse the lemon rind and pulp--it will just elicit a weaker brew.

I hope you feel better soon!

As well as popsicles, how about jello?

I wonder idly if parainfluenza-3 is circulating in your area. We've had two big spikes in para-3 incidence over the past couple of months.

If it is, don't worry! You'll only feel bad for 2 or 3 days, and then be fine except for a cough that lingers for weeks.

Hey, you could be bedridden for weeks. Look on the bright side!

[identity profile] entelein.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee hee! Thanks for being such a voice of comfort, Michael.

Yeah, this is pretty nasty, but I don't see it lasting long. This is very very similar to something I had last year around August, but that one was more triggered by the chemicals that were in a moisturizer thingy I was using on my face. Apparently, it's quite photosensitive. Whee. Durr. This thing has the cough, which I had all day yesterday, and a little bit the night before, and it's a really solid, heavy cough. My rib cage was a bit twingy yesterday afternoon.

I am sweating now, so I think I am getting another fever break, which is nice, because my head is hurting like a freaking hurting thing.

[identity profile] korvac.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, drink a lot of water.

[identity profile] ariock.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
you sound like you might know what the hell you are talking about....Do you know it the virus is transmissable via the lingering cough? even a couple of weeks later?

If you don't know, feel free to make shit up.

[identity profile] korvac.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's probably only transmissible during that early incubation period, assuming the cougher doesn't hack phlegm right down your throat or something.

Maybe that's what I had a few weeks ago...I'm still coughing a bit.

[identity profile] korvac.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure I had it a couple of months ago, when it was called 'the Michaelpox'. You know you have true friends when you infect them with a respiratory virus en masse and they still hang out with you.

Stop being sick. I don't like it when you are sick.

Seriously, I hope you feel better soon.

[identity profile] thunderclap8.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Might I recommend banana popsicles. They always make me feel better for some reason.

Then again I'm weird.

Hope you're not down for too long!

[identity profile] anton-p-nym.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, chicken soup and tea are probably the best bets. (Chicken soup is the better choice, all those nummy vitamins and minerals and stuff, but you can get full on it.)

Anyway, kick back, relax, fire up something reasonably mindless on the TV and let the ol' immune system do its thing.

-- Steve swears by chicken soup and rest. Oh, and asprin.
ext_301551: (dog barking)

[identity profile] clayfoot.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. As long as you use an old chicken. You can't count on the commercial canned soups; they could be any age.

[identity profile] anton-p-nym.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The way to bet on canned soups IS old chicken... lowest bidder, remember?

-- Steve points out that it doesn't really matter how tough meat is in soups... that's the point of making soup, isn't it? Boil it into submission!
ext_301551: (Default)

[identity profile] clayfoot.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not about the toughness; it's about the age of the chicken. In order for it to work properly as a cold remedy, it has to be an old enough chicken. In research, commercial soups don't have benefits as consistent as a homemade recipe with an old chicken.

[identity profile] anton-p-nym.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
And the movie for today will be Chicken Run. :)

-- Steve doesn't want to be a pie either, even though he likes gravy.

[identity profile] incyr.livejournal.com 2005-06-21 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortuantely, I don't know how many of us have access to old chickens. All I have access to are commercially available chicken soups. And maybe an old rubber chicken....

All of you do, wherever you buy poultry, now.

How to Buy Poultry

Select by Class

The class of poultry indicates the age of the bird. Age affects the tenderness of poultry meat and dictates the cooking method to use for maximum flavor and tenderness. Poultry meat from young birds is more tender than poultry meat from older birds.

Young birds provide tender-meated poultry that is suitable for all cooking methods, especially broiling, barbecuing, roasting, or frying. They may be labeled as:

Chicken: young chicken, Rock Cornish game hen, broiler, fryer, roaster, or capon.

Mature birds provide less tender-meated poultry that is suitable for moist-heat cooking such as stewing or baking, and may be preferred for use in soups, casseroles, salads, or sandwiches. They may be labeled as:

Chicken : mature chicken, hen, fowl, baking chicken, or stewing chicken.

The things one learns.

Interesting. Next time I'm looking to make soup, I'll try to remember this.

If you have what [livejournal.com profile] korvac was just talking about, then I feel for you. I just had it myself about 2 weeks ago. The fever lasted about 3 days, but I am STILL coughing occasionally. Mine was on the cusp of a weekend, so I only got 1 day off for it. And after those 3 days, I was right back at work...not feeling anywhere near as bad as I did the previous few days.

So, to sum up: Get Better! (HUG)
