Arrival

I have safely arrived, although it took me forever and a day.

Took the train directly from work, a train which shimmied so hard that I could not catch few z's like I so desperately wanted. Kept getting calls on my phone from the airline, automated calls that would not start until I had said, "hello," so I felt stupid saying hello without really needing to, even though no one else knew I was getting an automated call. Gate changes, mostly, until it was shortly before we'd begin boarding, and I was about to grab a sandwich from the Starbucks kiosk to eat on the plane: delay of one hour.

I put the sandwich back, and got a much more tasty and healthy burrito, as I pondered my travel woes getting worse. I called the shuttle service in NYC and recorded my flight delay with them, and let my host joe know that I was gonna be later than anticipated.

The flight started boarding shortly before 8 PM (for a flight that originally was set to leave at 7), but with a perky caveat from the attendant that even though we were boarding now, we might not get takeoff clearance until 9:10 PM.

Huh. OK.

We ended up getting out of there at 8:30, and arrived in NYC La Guardia at 11:30 PM local time. I called the shuttle service again, and they told me to wait in that area near baggage claim for "20 to 30 minutes" and the driver would come by and call my name. I called Jinxie, and we just randomly babbled for a while.

At 12:40, the driver for my batch of travelers finally came by. We stopped at 3rd ave and 110th, then somewhere in the 130's, and then on up, the driver's last stop for the night, up at joe's. 1:30 AM, baby. Sigh.

I got to meet Brooke, finally. Very momentous, and yet very normal. :) Yay, Ozy will be let down, I am sure, that there was not some sort of rift in space or time when Brooke and I said hello and hugged. But that's OK. It meant we could have some beer and sit around. Yanka and Wishi snubbed us, but that's OK, as I am sure I look quite travel-worn and frumpy.

Tomorrow, I get to meet a whole buncha people. I am extremely nervous, but also very very happy to be here.

New York feels familiar and logical to me. It was chuckling merrily to itself as I watched it pass by out the windows of the blue super shuttle van. It's hot here. The city never sleeps. But I gotta, so I will. Right now.
